Movie Review: Hubie Halloween

Hello friends! I wanted to pop in today to share some thoughts I had on the new Netflix movie Hubie Halloween! It seemed appropriate since Halloween is coming up in just a couple of weeks.

Plot Summary:

Despite his devotion to his hometown of Salem (and its Halloween celebration), Hubie Dubois is a figure of mockery for kids and adults alike. But this year, something is going bump in the night, and it's up to Hubie to save Halloween.

My Thoughts:

I don't always expect a lot from Happy Madison movies, but what I do expect is to have a good time and laugh a lot. And Hubie Halloween is a movie that made me laugh quite a bit.

It's silly. It's goofy. 2020 has been a crazy year and Hubie Halloween was just the laugh that I needed.

What I Liked:

  • Hubie Dubois is such a well meaning character. I genuinely felt bad for him as he was riding his bike through town and everyone was throwing trash at him and yelling at him.
  • The gag with the thermos. Everybody in town knows about Hubie and his thermos that he always carries with him. Not only that, but it appears to have magical abilities and helps him out in a lot of different situations. It cracked me up when he was in the diner and he poured three different kind of soups into his thermos -- then it somehow turned into a blender and he blended them all together.
  • The settings were absolutely beautiful. I loved the different shots of the town of Salem. I loved the corn maze that Hubie gets lost in. Everything was so aesthetically pleasing.
  • It wouldn't be a Sandler film if all of his friends and family weren't in it, right? Right. It's always fun to see familiar faces in his movies.

What I Didn't Like:

  • There were a lot of different plot threads going on which meant that some of them were focused on more than others. Obviously. It was very strange that Violet Valentine fell in love with Hubie so quickly. To be honest, it was very strange that she fell in love with him at all. But... that's an Adam Sandler movie for you. Haha.

Do I Recommend this Movie?

  • Heck yeah! It's on Netflix so it really doesn't cost you anything to watch it. I can guarantee you'll laugh, either because you find it funny or because you find it that ridiculous. My boyfriend and I got a pizza and we had dinner while we watched it this week and it made for the perfect movie night.
Have any Netflix recommendations? Let me know in the comments section. I get so bogged down when I'm scrolling through Netflix so I'm sure I'm missing some good stuff.

Until next time,
Marian
